Don't worry about the tidal wave to antenna.  He was not on the last post when he posted.
Has happened to me sometimes.  Finally got into the habit of clicking LAST POST button instead of NEW so I end up at the END of this thread.  If you are away for a few posts and click NEW, you can end up several posts before the end!

A single celled Protozoa.

Actually Rick: a tidal wave recently broke the optical broadband cable that is undersea between New York and Cape Town which congested satellites and left us stranded for a few hours. Made the news here.

Good interpretation Sami! Actually, I was thinking of those window blinds made of bamboo. The kind you roll up with a cord.  :)

Love sound of rain on tin roof.

Seems like half the screen rooms in Florida have those roll up bamboo blinds

I got the coolest electronic toy for my birthday:

a PURPLE hand-held scanner!  My old flatbed scanner/printer combo does not work well with win 7 so my mother bought me this.  Tested it yesterday and it does terrific job. uses micro SD card. I have a card reader in my computer so I don't even need to use the cord to connect the scanner to the computer!  Uses AA batteries for hundreds of scans!
Now I can carry my scanner with me!

Nice toy Sami.
You must have a steady hand to use it? or it is tolerable to erratic movements...
How dip can it scan, is it capable to scan a human face, for example?

 ??? :-\

Don't understand your word...dic.com did not have it either.

This is NOT a camera.  It is a scanner so no, no faces.
My version sold out the same day as offered (for win 7, up to 32GB card supported, lots of software which I will not install since I have my own OCR software installed)
I have the hard case too. The bundle I got has scanner, cable, 2 cd's of software, 2 energizer batteries, SDmicro 4GB card and adapter to SD size. Everything you need for $89.  We added hard case for $20.

Cool videos:
This is the one I got!   World launch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxW3ev1kugA

These are videos of earlier versions offered by HSN.com  but same basic features/functions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7wa7KpyqhM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y85l5D7Y66E&feature=channel

REVIEW by ASE:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ5v5ODg9Lw&feature=related

Can scan up to 4 foot long.  Great for receipts, etc. portable, and works with this new laptop which is most important.
And BEST of all, I do not have to use a CABLE!  I can but I do not have to use it to move images to my computer!
Just take the storage card out, put it into the adapter (provided in this bundle) and put it in my card reader!
Transfer JPG images from that card to my laptop or any computer. DONE.

MODIFIED POST with link to MY scanner.

favelas = a shantytown in or near a city, esp. in Brazil; slum area (from dictionary.com)

(N.T. not only in Brazil, but in the whole south America...)

Most of these precarious shanties are made with tin and cardboard...  :(
In Venezuela are called "ranchos"

Here, some examples of "favelas":

craftiness  (shrewdness?)

Many of those families are not poor... it is just a convenient way of life.
Living in those ghettos implies paying no services, land, light (they take it from urban posts), home taxes, etc. Can build wherever they want just taking possession of the space, and the best is that the authorities can do nothing (don't even try to...)

Mud-slides would take Everyone out

It already happened... 1999. Pls. look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vargas_tragedy
I lived it.

P.S.
I have traveled that highway, on the second pic, hundred, may be thousands of times. My mother lives a mile away from there, on the right side, just taking that exit that runs by the baseball field.

Law & Order

One of my favorite TV shows
Recently saw the UK version of Law & Order on our BBC America channel.
Same formula show but the casts and language/slang are totally different.

Tony I could not live in an area as crowded as that without losing my mind.

There is also Law & Order Paris
We have all three versions here...

I lived 5/6 of my life there... Why do you think I left it? Now I live in a small town with 2700 inhabitants.

Where is Law and Order Rome?   ???

That Law and Order franchise is the backbone of NBC!
The original was finally canceled this year  :(  But will live on in reruns for decades to come!

See that's a bit TOO small.  I will be going to a town with about 53,000.  Big enough for good shopping, small enough to breathe.

ill

My Oscar kitty has been fighting sinus problems all his life.  A couple weeks ago, he developed a really bad sinus cold.  It has only gotten worse and though he has been under medical care, I may lose him.  Blood running from nose, off his feed.  Borrowed a special cage that I can keep him in to better administer drugs.  Will post a pic when I have it loaded. Send up a prayer, say good things.  I NEED him now more than ever and can not handle losing him yet! (8yrs old)

I have seen only 1st and 3rd season of Dexter.   Someday will see the rest!

prayer

We will say a prayer for Oscar. As a sinus sufferer myself, I have some idea how he feels! Hope he recovers from his current situation.
