Small world: Same word, different language
« on: November 27, 2008, 06:29:01 PM »
The world is getting smaller.   Our world languages are overlapping.
So how about a list of words that appear in many languages without changing the spelling/meaning.  If you go to one of the countries and use this word, people should understand what you mean!

Cite the word, and the 2 or more languages.

first word:

NO       (English, Italian)

(modified to clarify instruction.  not intended to define a word in all languages)

This weekend I went to a play AVENUE Q.  Broadway award winning, it is a local street like children's Sesame Street but it all grown up.  Adult topics with people and Muppets.  Trekkie monster keeps interrupting a sweet young girl puppet who is singing about what she will teach tomorrow: the internet.  Every time she sweetly says "the internet is", Trekkie monster declares "for PORN!".  I ripped a digital copy of the song from my CD and cut it down so you can hear a piece of the song....very funny...    rofl

The stylus is a plastic tipped pen used to write on PDA telephones, game consoles, etc.
I bought a stylus pen for one of the ladies I work with.
She has a Nintendo DS Lite game unit (shown here:  hxxp://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=43309
The packaging had 6 languages.  Showed stylus for 2 of the six so I put the word on this list.

In my previous comment, I didn't know that "stylus" was indeed a pen! I don't know why that word remembered me a pen... I wrote that sentence just kidding!

Anyway   :rules:>:( that is not an universal word!!  :noshake:

I leave the last word to the judges :D

Sure!   If you go to this address:  h**p://www.logosdictionary.org/pls/dictionary/new_dictionary.gdic.main?word=god

You will see that GOD in several languages is still GOD.  :D

Here's a big list of GOD in many languages, some have GOD some have other words:
h**p://www.logosdictionary.org/pls/dictionary/new_dictionary.dic.main?u_code=4395&code_language=AF&language_list=&trg_lg=&word=GOD&phrase_code=&connect_value=&procedure_type=SW-exact&subject_code=&num_row=10

Really neat site!
