Password Home Page

How do I password the Home Page of a site so that a visitor can view that page but has to enter a password to go any further into the site.

This has probably been asked before but I can not find it on a search. Thanks

Do you want to assign passwords yourself?  Then using HTACCESS on a Linux/Unix server will work just fine.

If you want your members to sign up and have immediate access after a confirmation email is out, and modify email/password ongoing, then you will need a membership script.  AMEMBER is one of the best options here.
