Column width issues
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:54:34 AM »
I'm having problems with a table...no matter what I set the column width to, the first column is too wide when publish and the width doesn't change at all when I change the column width.
Example: http://www.aiavancouver.org/alliedmembers.htm

On this page, I want the logos immediately to the right of the company name on the left. IN CSB, spacing is just how I want it (1st column 260 pixels). I even completely rebuilt this page with a new table and the problem persists.

I've change CSB column width from 50 pixels to 500 pixels, but the published version never changes (Yes, I refresh my browser, even looked at it in multiple browsers). Is there some setting that overides individual column width?

Any help is much appreciated.

Your problem is Dawn Waldal.
That address is publishing as an image not typed text.
(Firefox tells me that is a MS Word document)
All other addresses are typed text.

Remove the Dawn Waldal address, type it in again directly and your problem will go away.

Both Firefox and Microsoft have toolbars to help identify stuff like this.
I prefer Firefox with the webdeveloper toolbar:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/60
Using that toolbar, I was able to outline your table cells.
Then turned off your images and that address disappeared.
AND the space taken up by that image is WIDER than any address, shoving your table lines over!
I LOVE THIS ADD-ON.

MS has a toolbar too, for IE 6 and IE7 only:  developer bar

Interesting the tool bar Sami. I will give it a try. Thanks.

There is another shortcut to check for this kind of problems which I normally use:

Taken MarkBot's problem as example:
- clicking on any place on the table then "Select All"

You will notice the abnormal extra space to the right taken by Dawn Waldal
If you right click over that space, you will be able to "Save Image as.." which is not possible when you right click on normal text. That tells you that it's an image.
