Formatting Container Pages (and others)
« on: January 20, 2010, 10:58:42 AM »
I have a lot of pages that look like http://www.allmilitaryreunions.org/calendar.htm -- colorful top border, links in the left border, and good stuff on the page body.

I have some container pages that look like http://www.allmilitaryreunions.org/alpha.htm -- colorful top border, no left border, and a page from another site in the page body.

I would like very much to change the container page format so it includes the links in the left border. But when I put in a left border, it goes all the way to the top of the page, pushing the top border to the right. An example is at http://www.allmilitaryreunions.org/id78.htm

Is there a way to make the container page's left border work so that the top border goes all the way to the left?

Related question: On all pages, not just the container pages, how can I fill the left border with the background from the top border?

GACK!!!!!! :v8slap: :ss-shocked:
I missed this question.  I am so sorry for taking so long to get back with you

1) All pages including container pages can have the borders adjusted at any time.  Choose FORMAT > EDIT PAGE LAYOUT to enter the main layout of the page type you want to work on.

BORDER ON/OFF:    http://www.samisite.com/backgrounds/nfborder/id55.htm
(EDIT > PROPERTIES > PAGE > PAGE AREA TAB, Choose a border and check box to show border.)
BORDER PRIORITY:    http://www.samisite.com/backgrounds/nfborder/id43.htm
(EDIT > PROPERTIES > PAGE > PAGE AREA TAB, In priority box, drag to change the priority then check in ADVANCED tab.)

2) The background from the top border is usually just a tiny sliver (vertical/horizontal) or a tiny square that repeats. Go to a published page, right click on the page and save image for the background to your desktop.  Check it for suitability. Sometimes it is GREAT for horizontal but not for vertical use.  Example: if the image has a horizontal line in it, you might want to crop the bottom off this version of the image, etc. so you don't end up with a repeating line where you want text.  When you have the image ready for use, go into the FORMAT > EDIT PAGE LAYOUT.  Right click on the border and choose Page Area.  Go to the background tab and assign your new image to the background.  Apply.  You will see how it looks.  If you have difficultly getting the results you want, please let us know and we'll get you going.
