analize your website...stats. sales. pages
« on: May 12, 2009, 02:51:24 PM »
Several companies offer analysis, site stats, information for your site.

Some are paid, some are free services, or free with limitations.
  When visitors arrive on that page, the browser reports back to that company about the visitor (screen resolution, IP address, country and other details).

So, how do you use these services and other questions:
(You must read the SPECIFICS for each company. Some have different rules/instructions.)

How:  Generally speaking,
1) you sign up for the service, define your website (sometimes a specific page) and get a piece of code.
2) most want the piece of code they give you to be placed at the bottom of each of your web pages you want to track. If using CSB, scroll to the bottom of your design page and use INSERT HTML (Trellix is BYO Webgem) to put the code THEY GIVE YOU into the end of the web page.
3) Publish.
4) you will begin to see results from your vistors within 24-48 hours usually.

This is a sample of what a google analytic 2-part code looks like:  (modified...sign up for your own code!  ;))
Code: [Select]
<script type="text/javascript">
var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www.");
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%1x%xC/script%3xx"));
</script>

<script type="text/javascript">
try {
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-xxxxx0-1");
pageTracker._trackPageview();
} catch(err) {}</script>

Best practices for Best results:
1) publish your website WITHOUT frames.  The statistics will be more accurate.
If you need to change from frames to non-frames take a look at this page for assistance if using CSB)
2) Don't put content below your analytics code if possible.

So what companies should you consider? Tons of them and really this is totally personal choice.
Depends on the options you would like too.

You might like these free services:
Google Analytics:   http://www.google.com/analytics/
Statcounter:   http://www.statcounter.com/

Or this paid service:
Webtistic    webtistic.com/

I have assisted on sites that use all of these and they all perform about the same.  There is variation in the information gathered so one may fit you better than another.  All are easy to use.
investmenttools.com is using webtistic statcounter AND google analytics on all major pages.
