forest

Robin Hood, Maid Marion, Friar Tuck, and Little John are characters that rebelled against Prince John while Richard the Lionhearted was fighting in the Crusades. It is a legend and Robin and his friends scurry around Sherwood Forest and Nottingham Castle as they harass the Prince's guards and evade his powerful armored knights. They steal from the rich and give to the poor after providing for themselves. It is partly a novel written by various authors and a new movie Sami mentioned has recently been released. I have not seen this movie yet but Bryan Adams acted and sang in one a few years ago that was very good.

Tony it never dawned on me that Friar Tuck would have a different name in the Robin Hood story.  :v8slap:
2010: Robin Hood (With Russell Crowe)  now out in US theaters:  http://www.robinhoodthemovie.com/
Most well known movie versions:
1991: Robin Hood (With Kevin Costner)  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102798/
1938: Robin Hood (With Errol Flynn)  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029843/

accuracy

I really don't remember if he was called Tuck or else in Spanish, but surely not "Friar" (Fraile or Monje is Spanish)
Little John has been named "Juanito" and "Pequeño Juan" - Lady Marion - Mariann, Marion, Mariana...

That's to mention only Spanish versions, I don't know the Italian versions, which are often more ridiculous names...   :v8slap:>:(

BTW,
I liked a comment that someone wrote: Does anybody knows why the second part of The Gladiator was called Robin Hood?   rofl rofl

That movie is sad. But made so well.

 :nofinger: :nofinger:
I can not help that the owner of our company came to work with a bad cold, coughed, sneezed and snorted for days in the office making sure we all shared in it. I was first out, but the others in the office have picked it up too!
I got really sick last year for a week, and now this past week, of colds.  Once per year is not often.
Usually I just get sinus issues from the pollens in my area which cause allergic reactions to flare. Was not allergic to anything until I moved to this place. Have been told by a doctor people develop allergies as they get older. I am guaranteed twice a year for problems with "Golden Rain Trees".  But they are not in bloom now. They make me miserable for about a 3 weeks in spring and 3 more in fall.

I'm not sure how Tony inserts the Smileys but thought I might try this one which I found amusing. It is called "Ton of Bricks". Sami, please delete if it is wrongly inserted. Shows up well in the Preview.

(german sausage)

I added the bricks to the pop up form. Great addition.   You can link to any image on the web, stored on your own websites or storage spaces, just do not "hot link" to images that are not your own, or under your own control. Just don't want Samisite or the forum to be accused of stealing.  I like the freebie smilie site that Tony mentioned.

I have to laugh because I used the word "polish" like in polishing shoes, which I associated with Sami's "buff", and Rick associated it as "Polish" like the people from Poland, and their famous Polony sausages. Clever!

Tony, "Ton of bricks" is actually used with other words as in, "The teacher came down on me like a ton of bricks when she turned around and saw me talking in class." It is just a symbolic expression, as Rick stated about our lives, to stress the level of trouble or hassle one sometimes has. I have no idea who said it, but it probably originates from the British or where imperial tons are or were used.

[Rick: Cool turn on the thread! from shoe polish to polish sausage.  ]
[Tony: each culture gains words from other cultures, but did not expect that "wurst" would be used outside germany. interesting.

Great example and explanation E!
I thought of my cold.  It came on so fast that I felt like I had been hit by "a ton of bricks".   :bricks:  :sickinbed:
In another way, the smilie also made me think of sheer pressure/stress "it's all caving in on me" type thing....

Ed, re "polish", I assume it is part of the game to do a twist on the word sometimes. Actually, I did not like this game much when Safari Woman introduced it, but it has grown on me.

BTW, where is Safari Woman these days?

ant

partial Lyrics to song by Frank Sinatra came to mind:  "High Hopes"
Just what makes that little ol' ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can't
Move a rubber tree plant

But he's got high hopes... he's got high hopes
He's got high apple pie in the sky hopes
So any time you're getting low
'Stead of letting go,
Just remember that ant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree
Oops there goes another rubber tree
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
