Hmmm, from what you guys are saying, seems I have missed something by never having seen Dexter! Since i am in Shanghai now, I will look for the series on DVD (very cheap here).

After telling me about the program for months, my brother had me watch an episode from the first season. It was fascinating. You are inside a serial killer's mind...his thoughts, motivations. Yet the whole time, he is being reined in by his father's teachings (he was a cop and KNEW that Dexter would be a serial killer so taught him "right?" from wrong. ...sorta. Seasons 1 - 4 are progression that is logical and growth of the "human" side of Dexter. But the "dark passenger" is more evident at the end of season 4.
Though it deals with killings, it is far less graphic than movies like Saw, Texas Chainsaw massacre and their type!
Each season ramps up as the show progresses, building to .....something that is breathtaking.
I am DEBATING whether I should watch season 5...
DO NOT jump into season 3+ without the earlier episodes. You NEED the progression of the character for fullest effect...

Rick, if you like this genre of films, you MUST see it. Just one advice: see it from the beginning.
I missed almost the first series because I was influenced by a doubtful role of Michael C. Hall (Dexter) in another show: Six feet Under

Tony, That Old Time Radio site even has old TV clips, discussions too.
I will listen to you and see one more episode of Dexter season 5 before I consider dropping/continuing with the season... WHEN it becomes available again. The site I found it on now links to subscription site only for users of a particular ISP!

So I will have to wait for it to come to something I can see... And I agree that seeing Dexter in order is BEST.
