I remember the first time I saw the Laser.
It was a demonstration in Toronto, Canada, 1974.

It is really amazing what they have been able to achieve with laser since 1974. A similar thing is happening with LEDs now.

Tony, starting Tuesday, I am going on a trip for two months in Australia's remote outback areas. We are travelling by 4WD from the east coast to the west coast, directly across through the centre of Australia, which is mostly desert. The roads there are mostly just dirt tracks, and we will travel sometimes for several days without seeing any other people. We are going together with another couple, so we will have two 4WD vehicles for safety. We will also carry a satellite phone.

So there will be times when I will not have internet connection, so I will be missing from the forum sometimes.

I will probably make a video of that trip, and put a short version on YouTube, so I will be sure to let you know.

Hope you are right about Sami. Anyway, I will have internet for much of the time along the way, so we will still be mostly in contact.

That is really amazing skill, Tony. I think people these days no longer have such skill. but maybe there are skills in other areas, like software design.

sour

Whisky Sour is a popular cocktail drink.

We arrived today at a place where we have internet. It is in the very centre of the Australian continent. Mostly desert here. We have travelled the last few days on a rough dirt track called the Oodnadatta Track.

A few days later we will set off again, heading further west on another rough remote track through the desert, reaching the west coast after about a week. So we wont have internet during those days.

Crodo

Today we will leave Alice Springs, and drive west to the west coast of Australia. Much of the way, we will drive on a small, rough, dirt track called the Gary Junction Road. Maybe you can try to find it. We will have nothing but desert for most of the way, But I have been told the desert is really beautiful, with many different, colourful wild flowers. We have to take all our water with us, and have very few places we can get fuel, so we have extra fuel with us.

Then finally, before we reach the coast, we will arrive at a beautiful place called Karijini National Park. For sure you can find that one.

Our plan is to arrive to the coast around August 18. Until then, we will not have phone or internet. But we do have a satellite phone with us to contact family sometimes, and in case of emergency. We will see few other people or cars in that time.

Talk to you again soon!  :)

"D" as in Domodossola

Crodo is a town in Province of Domodossola.
Domodossola is used by Italians when they spell the letter 'D' ( as Napoli for the 'N', Roma for the 'R', etc...)
'D' in Spanish is Dinamarca (Denmark)
What do you use for the letter 'D'?

I found the Gary Junction Road on the map. You are in the middle of nowhere! It is really a long and straight road! be careful not to fall asleep when driving!
I also found the beatiful Karijini National Park. Enjoy it, you deserve it after that long journey.

delta

We use "delta" for the letter D.

Aha, there is no chance of falling asleep on the Gary Junction road! It is a rough bush track, with lots of dust, holes, corrugations, and deep sand. It is deep in the desert, so the road often went over high sand hills. There we only three small towns all the way, occupied by small Aboriginal communities. We had to buy our fuel there, sometimes at twice the normal city price, and we also took extra fuel with us in "jerry cans", because those towns are far apart.

Now we have arrived at some civilisation: the small town of Marble Bar. It has a pub called the Iron Clad Hotel. It was nice to have a cold beer there!

So now we are out of the desert, and will go to Karijini today and stay there several days.

Now we are on our way from Karijini to the west Australian coast. Last night we stayed at Nanutarra Roadhouse. These kinds of roadhouse are common in outback Australia. There you can get fuel, buy some limited provisions, and usually they have a camping place where you can park your car and caravan, and get a shower.

Today we will travel the remaining 400km to the coast, and stay in a caravan park there for 4 days. It will be a good rest.

After that we will travel down the coast to Perth. Then travel across the Nullarbor desert, finally arriving back home to Sydney about one month later. But the big adventure of crossing the desert has been completed. All the rest of the trip is by normal roads, mostly in populated areas. This is except the trip across the Nullarbor desert, which is very isolated, but it is a good black road, and easy driving.

Here is a pic of one of our camps in the desert. I took the photo from the sky with my quadcopter:

I watched an interesting video about Nanutarra Roadhouse on YouTube. Amazing! It is in the middle of nowhere! Thanks God there still exist people that believe in this kind of business. There is a high price to pay for these benefits, in terms of lonely and being far away of everything.

There is still a long way to finish your adventure, but you have already done a half of it. Keep going safely.

Nice photo, it silently reflects your expedition.

Yes! Nanuturra Roadhouse is really in the middle of nowhere! We rely a lot on this kind of roadhouse in Australia, for travelling in the remote areas. You are right, it is lucky there are people willing to conduct this kind of business.
