I do not want British definitions. I want American English definitions.
The language that I speak and read is American English.

- An apartment is not a flat where I live.
- When movies are dubbed into ENGLISH, more use the AMERICAN English, not British.
- When books are translated into ENGLISH, more use the AMERICAN English.
Though the British Empire spread the British version of English world-wide, the American version has been thriving!
I grew up in Germany. I went to a german school for a while. They were teaching American English in the German school system. Obviously closer physically to the British Isles, yet they were teaching AMERICAN English...And American English is now spoken by the majority of young adults in Germany when we went back to visit!
We live on opposite sides of the world. Aussie's speak English but it is also not a pure British English. Closer yes, but it is also moving away from the British English.
Hey Tony...I notice that the Puerto Rican Spanish is not necessarily standard either. Seems when populations move away from the source, they develop thier own version of th elanguage.
