vino

 I was convinced this word was Italian and originally Latin (vinum), but lo and behold it's in the Dictionary.com. I think they must be wrong or maybe I am reading the page incorrectly: h**p://dictionary.reference.com/browse/vino

grep: amazing, I can't find a word like that anywhere and if anyone is looking for a 4 letter word domain, this may be the last unused 4 letter .com domain: h**p://www.grep.com/. I get a "Cannot display page" window.

You've got to quit using those cheap dictionaries  rofl

grep tool, information science
A Unix command for searching files for lines matching a given regular expression (RE). Named after the qed/ed editor subcommand "g/re/p", where re stands for a regular expression, to Globally search for the Regular Expression and Print the lines containing matches to it. There are two other variants, fgrep which searches only for fixed strings and egrep which accepts extended REs but is usually the fastest of the three.
Used by extension to mean "to look for something by pattern". When browsing through a large set of files, one may speak of "grepping around". "Grep the bulletin board for the system backup schedule, would you?

But it took me too long to get this written...

By the way...it finally dawned on me...We really ARE a global community.  DUH!   :v8slap:
In this word association game, sometimes I have made references to things that I thought everyone would know about (goodship lollypop, buffalo head nickel, etc). Though I did not grow up in the United States, I was still brought up on American culture.  There are others on the board that do not have that frame of reference and I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE for forgetting that!  I will TRY to put my thinking into the response...makes it more fun to see what brought someone to that thought.

Sorry about the duplicate.  This Comcast trouble is getting worse.  They say there is nothing wrong.  Here's the info from this page when it loaded "Page created in 53.285 seconds with 16 queries.  It actually took a minute and one half to display.  When I post it takes 2 to 3 minutes to complete.  Couple of other forums have the same problems and they are different software and different servers.

Jim, Try running trace route to this website, samisite.

A Trace Route command could tell you if there is a delay somewhere between you and the server. Tracing the route helps to identify where the break down occurs. Sometimes there is one server that you are hitting on the way to a site that is dropping out.  Sometimes an ISP or host can help resolve.

Use your DOS command prompt.
Take it to your c drive if you are not already on c
C:\Documents and Settings\Sam>cd c:\

Then type in tracert domainname
C:\>tracert samisite.com

And repeat again for  C:\>tracert forum.samisite.com
Should be similar.

Post your results here so we can see......

(lol sorry Sam, yes Charlottes Web is much nicer... No worries Jim, that is bound to occasionally happen... Have you checked your route with Visual Route lite.. or a similar route checking program? Sometimes when I and others play a particular game together and we start getting booted or the screens don't respond properly because they are loading too slowly, I run this check as do those who have it and we always find it is the route getting bounced around too much and taking too long. Maybe it is worth a try just to be able to show them some proof of what is happening. ?? PS A majority of us that have this problem are with Comcast but it can happen to any server I guess. )

I use Trace Route.  On most of the sites the path was short and fast when you accessed a static page.  If I did a traceroute to a forum or blog, the last site, usually the server or a level 3 box in the data center shows no access.  I'm told that usually means that Comcast is blocking the packets from those sites.  Good news is the places i couldn't access at all started working about 6pm.  Still have slow access here but at least I'm back up.
