Title: Trying to recover websites, help please!
Post by: hidden on April 14, 2008, 03:26:53 PM
Hi Everyone,

I have developed two long standing websites with Cutesite Builder version 4. I have been knocked for six by a fateful hard drive crash which has lost all my data. Is there away of pulling back my hosted website files back into the newly reloaded Cutesite Builder program please. I would greatly appreciate some assistance, I am desparate.

kind regards

I am truly sorry for your loss.  Backups are so vital to all of us and unfortunately most folks don't think about them until there is major loss.

Did you copy your tlx design file to a USB stick or cd, or any other removable media?
Did you have the box checked in CSB to create a backup copy on your web site?  (useful to do once a month or so)

If neither of those options were done, you will need to start from scratch to place your websites into CSB again.

STRONGLY RECOMMEND you immediately go to your site with FTP software and download all contents of the website to your computer, burn a disk or copy onto a usb stick.  This is your only reference for what you have NOW, all the images, text, links, etc.  As you rebuild, you will be overwriting existing pages and you need to have a copy of the way it is NOW before you begin.

Install CSB on your computer (get an installation copy from GlobalSCAPE support).
You will need your serial number to unlock the program.  Do you have it stored somewhere?  If not, GlobalSCAPE will help you find it.

You can not import your pages into CSB.
Open your website in your browser, copy paste images and text and rebuild.

OR you can open another program (see our main list on the forum home page) for some programs that may be of interest.  And put your content into pages built by one of those programs instead.

Thank you Sam for your quick response. Unfortunately I had not had the copy CSB ticked. I have got my serial number and downloaded CSB4 again. It looks like as you say I have to start from scratch  :'(. I will take a look at the other options you mention. Thank you once again for your assistance

kind regards
