Tony, I don't think your post is legitimate. It is an abbreviation.

I tried to post same thing earlier today but couldn't get solid connection in the hospital on my ipad or on phone. (Was waiting on someone getting a biopsy done)

According to Dic. com blt is a noun included on a "Slang definitions & Phrases", otherwise it would be pointed out as an abbreviation.
Sorry if I understood wrong.

Tony, I wonder how you seem to be looking at a different version of dic.com.

I can see what you mean about BLT, but it is simply an abbreviation of bacon, lettuce and tomato. The fact it is written as all upper case "BLT" indicates an abbreviation. If it had become a common usage actual word it would be written "blt", which doesn't really work because it has no vowel.

Tony, I wonder how you seem to be looking at a different version of dic.com.

Sorry, it is the only version I get clicking on Dictionary.com.

I can see what you mean about BLT, but it is simply an abbreviation of bacon, lettuce and tomato.

Grammatically I agree with you, but Dic.com does not mention that it is an abbreviation at all (indeed it is), but a noun.
I’m just sticking to the game’s rules.
May be we have to add another exception to the rules.

Do you remember the Maradona's "Hand of God" against British? Everybody knows that it was a goal made with a hand, there are even pictures that confirm it, but the referee said that it was a goal and it remained as a goal.

(Time to get rid of the "s"!)

You are absolutely right, Tony - if the referee declares it a goal, then it is a goal, no matter what the camera says.

So if our illustrious judge says BLT is an acceptable word, then it is!

I already posted that I also thought of it as only an abbreviation...cant imagine how it  ould be a word (noun) without vowel.  I think of BMW, IBM, VCR, DVD. all abbreviations...  sorry Tony. I disagree with your dic.com page.

In USA, y can be, and often is considered a vowel.

Quote
These letters are vowels in English:

A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y
The letter Y can be a vowel (as in the word "cry" or "candy"), or it can be a consonant (as in "yellow").

These five or six letters stand for about 20 vowel sounds in most English accent

Yes, is the only one I have, the only difference is the OS, one is XP (where Dic. com Beta is shown) and the laptop is Windows 7.
May be this is the reason.

The last few days I have been at my cabin in the mountains. Yesterday we had almost cyclone-level winds. Somehow my cabin managed to remain on the ground without damage. Snowing today.

So let's start with:

Again, tice doesn't appear on dic.com Beta version. I had to look on my laptop to be sure.   :(
How come they launch a version with a different base of words?
Can anyone solve the mistery and tell me how to get the old version?
This is the URL I get when try to open dic.com and check for tice: h**p://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tice?s=ts
I tried writing directly the same URL read on the laptop, but it always shows the Beta version.

I can't explain it Tony. I get almost the same URL as you, but without the last "s". However I also tried it with that extra "s" and it made no difference.

I don't know how to get the beta version here, and I am a bit afraid to try to get it, because then I may not be able to get rid if it!

Do you know if that beta version is the original beta, before the current site we have been using, or is it the beta of a new site? It would be strange for a new site to have fewer words, unless they were trying to purge old words no longer used, perhaps for the mobile version of dic dot com. Who knows?  :-\

Do you know if that beta version is the original beta...?

That's a good question, but how could I know?    :-\

BTW, this is what I get by ANY means:

It is EXACTLY as the URL I get with the laptop.
The only explanation that comes to mind is that somehow they check the country.

If I'm not wrong, Sami wrote them once, may be she could do it again to get an explanation.

Recently I installed a new cellular-wifi system on my boat, and now it seems I can sometimes get an internet signal where I could not get it before.

So go ahead with a new game when you are ready, Tony, and I will connect whenever possible.

I think I have the beta version too now. Seems like it has now been released as the full version. I don't like it much. It seems like it has fewer words and does not show all the derivatives of a word.
