Its you, for putting up with us on SWCF, we have to thank.

Here is another little freeware utility called TreeSize that I have grown fond of: h**p://www.jam-software.com/

It calculates the branch/directory + sub directories size - something that Windows Explorer can't do. See the Pro version.

You folks ARE the SWCF!  Without you, there would be no SWCF!

Used it for almost 2 years now and thought I had already posted it.
I don't remember but maybe you have.

Regarding the other thread about computer maintenance. This is a case in point where the software installation does not add a shortcut (to the desktop or to Start>Programs) we were talking about earlier and I have to send a shortcut to the desktop and then move it to the Unused Desktop Shortcuts folder to keep track of stuff tried or still using.

Yup... Some small freebies don't make the desktop icon and I create them manually and place it in my sc tool bar.  Both of our methods for storing the shortcut icons are easier than using the START ALL PROGRAMS menu!!

Maybe because I have a 21 inch screen .. yet tons of programs... mine still show up and I don't find it uneasy to just use the start button. The only thing I don't like is that after the original Dell installed programs they refuse to ALL load alphabetically... I hate looking for the ones I don't use that often. Does anyone know if there is a way to get them to all appear alphabetically regardless of when they were loaded? It is funny that it will put a few new in alphabetically then start over and there will be another short list in order, then another etc..

I usually right click on a list and select 'Sort by Name' in the pop-up menu. The default sorting priority is folders first and then file short-cuts.

I am not sure if I understand that..
hmm

I have almost 100 programs under my Start All Programs menu

I hit the start button
hit the all programs button
highlighted any program in the field
right clicked
hit arrange alphabetically
voilą

is that what you are referring to or something different?

You've got it. Except that if you've created or added additional folders, (i.e. over and above the usual Accessories, Start Up etc.folders) then you have to right click and sort each one individually. I don't know of a way to globally sort them all at the same time with one right click & sort action. This method works the same for My Favourites in Internet Explorer.

Hmm the only thing I see is that all the folders are in alpha order.. and all the programs that show up as a shortcut icon are separately grouped together .. but also alpha since I did those too... so I have two groups of things but oh weeeeeeeeeeee is it so much easier to find things.. now that I am getting used to not looking in the same visual areas for the frequently used programs.. lol. And then there is the .. what was that program called again factor.. but I always had that so I am loving it over all. Thanks again. I don't know why I never even tried that. lol Sometimes it is the little things that really escape me!

Thats what is fun about a community forum.  Gab about stuff and sometimes we get some great ideas through the sharing.

One thing that I do to keep myself sane:
QUICK LAUNCH toolbar has a link to your desktop.  Clicking it minimizes all open windows so you can see the desktop.  WELL....sometimes while working on a project, I get 200 icons on the desktop and can't find the one I need.  So I dragged a shortcut to the desktop FOLDER down there too.  I can click it and see a list of all the icons.
